Thank you to the beer runners who turned up Monday evening to run with young athletes from the Fishtown Athletic Club and raise money for the Fall soccer program. The group ran a whole mile together from Fishtown to Darling’s Diner where they indulged in root beer floats instead of the usual adult-only beers.
Although many beer runners regularly run 10+ miles at one time, maintaining a steady jog for 1 mile can be a challenge for 11-13 year olds. The beer runners were paired up with young runners to give them encouragement and pacing as well as to show them that it is possible for running to be fun. Based on the smiles when the root beer floats were served, the message that running is fun was a success.
Youth runners at the root beer run are members of the U12 and U14 girls soccer teams from Fishtown Athletic Club. Beer runners contributed funds for their root beer floats and $100 extra was donated to the soccer program at the Fishtown Athletic Club. Thank you beer runners for your generous support!
The root beer run was started three years ago and coordinated by Sarah Johnson who is a volunteer coach at the Fishtown Athletic Club. For anyone interested in volunteering with or donating to the club, visit their website for contact information.
