Film Screening of the award winning documentary BEER RUNNERS by Justin Wirtalla to benefit the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center (SKCC) Social Work Emergency Fund. The event features a pre-film Meet & Greet Cocktail Party and the release of the Philadelphia Brewing Company’s special beer for runners, brewed in collaboration with Dr. Manuel Castillo, “The Professor”.

Wirtalla’s film captures the resilience of the human spirit and the compassion of others. Filmed in Philadelphia and Spain, BEER RUNNERS chronicles the story of David April, a Jefferson kidney cancer survivor, and how running and beer positively transformed his life and the lives of others. His passion for running spawned a running club and a community where people support and encourage the success of others known as Fishtown Beer Runners. David’s journey has helped others turn their lives around, and sparked the Beer Running Movement in the United States and Spain. The film received the Sharon Pinkenson Award for Best Local Feature at the 2015 Philadelphia Film Festival.

Event is sponsored by Jefferson University Hospital and proceeds to benefit the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center’s Social Work Emergency Fund. $25 suggested donation, $10 for Beer Runners and Students. To donate, pay at the door the evening of the event with cash, check or credit card or in advance online here
